MACRI | Mississippi Applied Cannabis Research Institute

Create a credible bridge between questions worth asking and research that can actually be conducted, measured, reviewed, and published.

Current status: Concept-stage research initiative. No independent institute, research facility license, university agreement, human-subject approval, or clinical trial is represented as established.

What MACRI would be

The proposed Mississippi Applied Cannabis Research Institute is a plan for careful, lawful inquiry into botanical preservation, measurement, agricultural questions, and evidence-based education. It is intended to begin with defined research questions and qualified institutional partners—not with unsupported claims about medical benefits.

MACRI is not currently represented as a formed institute, authorized research facility, approved clinical study, or university-affiliated program. Its first milestone is responsible project and oversight design.

The vision

MACRI is an emerging concept for Mississippi-based applied work on botanical science, cannabinoids, terpenes, preservation, cultivation, analytical methods, consumer education, and responsible translation of scientific findings. The project aims to begin with feasible study questions and legitimate institutional relationships, not to open a regulated laboratory simply by naming one.

The problem worth solving

A large gap exists between consumer product claims, agricultural practices, industry marketing, and replicable evidence. Manufacturers, retailers, patients, growers, and educators frequently work with fragmented information. A structured, method-conscious program could develop useful protocols, analytical data, and accessible explanations without promising a particular result.

Program and operating workstreams

  • Storage and preservation: test controlled humidity, packaging materials, environmental conditions, and product stability using documented protocols.
  • Instrumentation and traceability: evaluate measurement quality, sensor calibration, sample custody, labeling data, and reproducible methods.
  • Legal agricultural research: explore lawful crop observations, cultivation data, environmental inputs, and sustainability questions.
  • Education and evidence translation: publish understandable summaries that distinguish experimental findings from advertising claims.
  • Health-related questions: consider literature reviews or future appropriately approved studies on pain, migraines, dysautonomia/POTS, and related areas without making treatment or efficacy claims.
  • Research governance: establish scientific advisors, institutional oversight, data plans, budgets, and publication standards before any regulated study.

Business or funding model

Potential pathways include university-administered sponsored research, fee-based analytical support where legally permitted, documentation and data-system contracts, instrument validation pilots, and evidence-based curriculum. These are candidate funding models, not existing revenue streams, grants, or secured contracts. A university-hosted approach is one possibility for exploration, contingent on the institution and regulators.

Development priorities

  • Define three small, measurable research questions that can be reviewed for legality and scientific validity.
  • Identify a qualified research lead, oversight requirements, approved facility route, and realistic pilot budget.
  • Seek exploratory meetings and written interest from potential institutional or corporate collaborators.
  • Document sponsor influence, data ownership, publication rights, and conflict-of-interest protections.
  • Launch only activities for which permissions and resources are confirmed.

Who we want to hear from

University faculty, qualified laboratories, sensor makers, packaging manufacturers, agronomy experts, research counsel, approved institutions, and potential sponsors who value independent methods and carefully controlled claims.

Important boundaries

This is not an established university institute, clinical research program, or medical provider. No patient recruitment, human experiments, regulated sample testing, or cannabis handling is authorized by this webpage. Any healthcare-related work would need the appropriate independent review and applicable approvals.
